“What if I lose my job?” “What if the diagnosis is bad?” “What if I’m making the wrong choice?”

Fear is a liar. It takes a potential future that hasn’t happened yet and forces you to live through the pain of it today. It paralyzes you. It keeps you small.

But throughout the Bible, the command “Do Not Fear” appears 365 times—once for every day of the year. God knows we are prone to fear, so He gave us a daily prescription to fight it. You were not created to live looking over your shoulder.

What does the Bible say about fear?

The Bible tells us that fear does not come from God. 2 Timothy 1:7 says God gave us a spirit of “power, love, and a sound mind.” Therefore, if you are feeling a spirit of fear, it is an intruder. You have the authority to kick it out.

Verses to Crush Fear

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” — Isaiah 41:10

What this means: The reason we don’t have to fear is not because “everything will be perfect.” It is because “I am with you.” A child walking through a dark alley isn’t afraid if their strong father is holding their hand. God is holding your hand.

Prayer: I am not alone. You are holding me up. I will not be dismayed.

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” — 2 Timothy 1:7

What this means: Fear makes your mind feel chaotic and unsound. This verse reminds you of your inheritance. You have access to power (to fight), love (which casts out fear), and a sound mind (calm thinking). Claim that inheritance today.

Prayer: I reject the spirit of fear. I claim a sound mind in Jesus’ name.

Verses for When You Feel in Danger

“The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?” — Psalm 27:1

What this means: If God is your stronghold (your fortress), then what can man actually do to you? This verse puts our problems in perspective. Compared to God, our fears are tiny.

Prayer: You are my fortress. I am safe inside Your walls.

“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.” — Psalm 56:3

What this means: David doesn’t say “I am never afraid.” He says “When I am afraid.” Courage is not the absence of fear; it is the decision to trust God in the middle of the fear. It is an action.

Prayer: I feel afraid, but I am choosing to put my trust in You right now.

3 Ways to fight fear today

  1. Name the Fear: Fear grows in the dark. Write down exactly what you are afraid of in our S.O.A.P. Journal. Exposing it often makes it look smaller.
  2. The “Worst Case” Scenario: Ask yourself, “If the worst happens, will God still be there?” The answer is yes. If He is there, you will be okay.
  3. Worship Over Worry: You cannot worry and worship at the same time. Turn on worship music loud. Fear cannot survive in an atmosphere of praise.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is fear the opposite of faith? Not exactly. Unbelief is the opposite of faith. Fear is just an emotion. You can feel fear and still have faith, as long as you keep moving forward.

How do I stop “Doom Scrolling”? If the news causes you fear, turn it off. Guard your heart (Proverbs 4:23). You are responsible for what you feed your mind.

Does “Fear of the Lord” mean I should be scared of God? No. It means “Awe” and “Reverence.” It means respecting God’s power so much that you stop caring what people think. When you fear God, you fear nothing else.

Conclusion

Fear is a shadow, but God is the Light. When you turn on the Light, the shadow must disappear.
